State initiative
Food industry

LI Food - Landesinitiative Ernährungswirtschaft Niedersachsen aims to sustainably strengthen and secure the food industry in Lower Saxony. By pooling expertise and establishing networks in all areas of the food industry, the initiative supports small and medium-sized companies in particular that do not have their own research and development departments. The main tasks of LI Food include the initiation and support of research and development projects, support in competition and advice on funding. The focus here is on promoting innovation and technology transfer.

The state initiative is carried out on behalf of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Building and Digitalisation by the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) in Quakenbrück in collaboration with the subcontractor Seedhouse Accelerator GmbH.

Competent
network

The food industry in Lower Saxony is the second most important economic sector after the automotive industry. Unlike the automotive industry, the food industry is characterised by very heterogeneous structures and a large number of small and medium-sized companies form the basis of this important economic sector. Due to the high price pressure, investments in research and development fields are significantly less than one per cent of turnover, especially for smaller companies. By actively networking business, research, politics and society, LI Food endeavours to assist the industry with the challenges in the five fields of action and support it with various measures.

The key to the successful development of the food industry in Lower Saxony lies in targeted innovations. In addition to these fields of action, the social acceptance of Lower Saxony's food industry is becoming increasingly important. LI Food aims to promote trust in the industry and social acceptance by involving all stakeholders in public discourse and supporting the transformation of complex and global value chains. In addition to the economic challenges facing the industry, this ongoing process must also take account of environmental and social expectations.
