The idea
What it's about
NUNOS is a spin-off from the German Aerospace Centre and has developed a purely biological treatment process for refining liquid manure and fermentation residues. The innovative bioreactor transfers the natural transformation processes of the arable soil into a closed technical system, making the microbial processes more efficient and faster. The main result is a liquid fertiliser with a cocoa-like consistency, which produces 40 % less greenhouse gas emissions during storage and application than untreated substrate. The nutrients it contains are directly available to plants, meaning that the processed liquid can be used in a similar way to an industrial fertiliser. Farmers can therefore use existing resources more efficiently and sustainably and the water, soil and air ecosystems are protected from surpluses.
The process is integrated as a stand-alone system on the farm.
The team
Who is behind it
The founding team consists of Tim Paulke (environmental engineer) and Fabian Mierbach (electrical engineer). They initiated the technology transfer from aerospace to agriculture and have already successfully scaled up the process from a desk model in the laboratory to a prototype. While Tim, as CEO, is more responsible for business development, Fabian, as CPO, takes care of product development.
I associate the Seedhouse with uncomplicated cooperation at eye level - regardless of whether the person comes from a start-up, the management of a large company or is otherwise involved in the Seedhouse. Annual highlight: innovate!
