What it's about
BIOWEG replaces petroleum-based chemicals with innovative bio-alternatives using biotechnology, materials science and green chemistry. We produce highly functional and customisable bio-based materials and ingredients for cosmetics, personal care products, agricultural seed coatings and processed foods using a circular process. First, we recycle agricultural and food waste in a zero-waste fermentation and once the bacterial cellulose is produced, we modify its surface. Following the principles of green chemistry, we functionalise the cellulose fibrils and adapt them for different formulations. The entire process is also very energy efficient and requires minimal sterilisation. This dual feature significantly reduces the consumption of water and other sterilisation chemicals, making the process an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution.

The founders of BIOWEG are second time founders and have a strong scientific and business background with a combined experience of over 30 years. The R&D teams are led by experienced (more than 40 years combined) and brilliant scientists with strong international scientific careers.
